Lesmahagow Ladies Singles Competition 2017

I'd like to say a BIG THANKYOU to the ladies who took part in our singles competition today.
This year we were able to follow the Lanarkshire Ice Rink ladies section format starting with 6 sections of 3 players. 18 ladies is a super turnout. Each section played a round robin and the 6 section winners and 2 highest runners-up went forward into quarter finals, semis and then a final which were all played on a knockout basis.

The semi-finalists were Janet Drife playing Alison McRae and Ann Howie playing Rona McAlister.
Both games were very close.

The finalists were Alison McRae and Rona McAlister.
In the final, Rona narrowly beat Alison by drawing to the centre of a head already packed with some well drawn stones. The final score was 5-4.

I would, normally, close this blog by saying something exceptionally nice about the winner but, since I won it 😊, I'd just like to say how delighted I am to be in this position and to thank everyone for making it such an enjoyable day. I'll let you all know how my legs and back have held up.....playing 100 stones over one day was quite a challenge. 🍷 and celebrations tonight.
