Congratulations to Alison Taylor!
When we reorganised the Jim Steele Salver games which were cancelled in January due to snow, it was agreed that we would use the ice booked on 9th March to complete our league games ( instead of Points as per syllabus) and combine our Lesmahagow Ladies Points competition with the LIR Ladies Points.
This competition was held yesterday, Mon 6th March, at 12.15pm
There were only 10 ladies in total playing in this competition, with the majority of ladies being members of the LIR Ladies Committee.
Although we've mentioned signing up for this competition on several occasions, the only 2 Lesmahagow Ladies who competed were your President and Vice President!
So.....Alison and I played for the Lesmahagow Ladies Points Trophy this year and I came second.
With 10 ladies having to juggle playing, fielding and scoring stones, we only managed to fit in 6 or 7 disciplines, I think, due to time constraints which influenced the final score. For those less familiar with Points, there are 4 stones played in each category (draw, take out, raise etc) 2 points are awarded for each perfect shot, 1 for being nearly there and 0 for each OOPS! A maximum of 8 points per category and up to 9 different types of shot to try. There is a final 10th category on the sheet which I think is used at the end of the competition to determine the winner, if there are players sitting on equal points. The opinion of some of the more skilled and experienced lady curlers who were playing was that the ice was very tricky to read and I'd have to agree that I struggled.
Alison, however, with 27 points demonstrated much more skill at reading the ice and playing the required shots. She not only won our club competition but also won the LIR Ladies Competition too. A double celebration!
