WI CURLING
Last Friday, 20th January '17, was the date for annual Lanarkshire WI curling competition at L.I.R. and I'm pleased to announce that the winning rink from Hawksland Rural was made up of 4 Lesmahagow Ladies.
Our congratulation go to Ann Howie, Rebecca Gardner, Elizabeth Miller and Isobel Haddow.
They go on to represent Lanakshire in Dumfries in March.
LANARKSHIRE LADIES OPEN COMPETITION
This competition was held in our ice rink on Monday 23rd Jan '17 and, again, we had some successful Lesmahagow Ladies.
This time our congratulations go to Alison Taylor who played in the winning rink and Lucy Levack, Alison McRae, Margo Steele and Amanda Stewart who were 3rd.
GENERAL CLUB INFORMATION
1.The Jim Steele Salver game on 12th January was cancelled due to heavy snow.
These games will now take place on Thursday 9th March at 12.15pm.
2.As 9th March was originally our date for the Ladies' Points, we will be asking you if you wish to compete in the Points this year. Depending on the number of ladies showing interest, we may rearrange this date to play the competition for our ladies only or propose that our ladies take part in the ice rink Ladies' Points competition instead. The highest scoring Lesmahagow lady in the ice rink ladies competition would then win our Lesmahagow Ladies Points. Numbers have dropped for our own Ladies Points in the past few years and this has meant that club funds have been used to subsidise the ice fees. It has also been difficult to score, field stones and curl due to dwindling numbers.
3.A sheet will be passed round next Thursday, 2nd February, for names of those who would like to play in our Singles Competition. There is not a lot of spare Thursday ice available, so we will also be asking you to let us know which other days would suit you best so we can agree a date with the ice rink.
4.I'm sure the club secretary, John Duncan, will soon be chasing us to collect club trophies in soon so that he can get them engraved with this year's competition winners' names. If you have any trophies, Merle and I will be happy to take them from you now.
There are a few weeks in February where we are not curling in our regular Thursday slot, so please bring the trophies as soon as possible.
5. Remember that 17TH FEBRUARY is a FRIDAY game.
Skips might want to remind their rink members because we are also off the week before.
Lots to read ladies but I'd be very grateful if you can take note of these things and pass info on to anyone who does not have access to the website....just in case anyone is left out of the loop!
Thanks,
Rona
