Lesmahagow Ladies held their 50th Anniversary Bonspiel on Thursday 27th September 2018.
Our President Alison put in a lot of hard work and detail into making this a special occasion. Jackie Lockhart was invited as guest speaker and Margaret Nicol, Ladies President of Scottish curling both joined us. They both played in the competition and Margaret was in the winning rink.
This was our Opening Bonspiel and was played for the Christine Mitchell Trophy. Christine was our President in our 25th Anniversary year and we thought it was appropriate to celebrate 50 years as the Ladies section playing for the Christine Mitchell Trophy.
We played at 2.30pm instead of our usual time 12.15. Past members and friends were invited to join us to either play or watch the curling. We had a celebratory glass of Fizz after the game and Jean Veitch cut the cake. We then went to the dinning room and enjoyed a lovely hot buffet. We had 47 playing members and 20 guests.
After the meal Jackie spoke and told us how her curling career started and how she hopes it to continue in the future. It was as if she was back "Hame " again !!
Margaret gave us some entertaining stories and said we were now equal to Lesmahagow men in numbers.
We had 12 Rinks playing, it was great to see all 6 sheets full, well that's a slight fib we were 1 player short.
The Winners this year were : Skip Jim Sandilands, Elma Walker, Margaret Nicol and Robert Riddell. Plus 8. 6 shots, they were all invited to play so I think they would enjoy their day and we won't have any trouble getting them back next year.
The runners- up were Skip Jackie Craig, Shirley Mathieson, Bobby Mitchell and Jane Dearie on Plus 8 5 shots. It was a very close competition !!
A Special thanks must go to Jane Dearie for making our celebration cake and the Tablet we had with our coffee. They were both absolutely delicious.
Alison and her committee put in a lot of hard work but it was well worth it to see how successful the day was.
All our past members enjoyed catching up again! It was lovely to see them and roll on another 50 years as Lesmahagow Ladies.
